apud Plin. l. 25. c. 8. Est et buphthalmos similis boum oculis, folio foeniculi, circa oppida nascens, fruticose caulibus, qui et manduntur decocti. Quidam Calchan vocant: herba est, quam Dioscorides κάχλαν vocat, alii κάλχαν, ut Plin. habet, Siculi κάλθαν, unde Romani Caltham fecêre. Quamvis caltha Latii proprie non sit Graeciae βούφθαλμος, quae herba apud Latinos nomine caret. Unde Graecam appellationem retinuit Plin. et Virg. in Culice.

Α῎νθη μήλινα , flores luteos, ei tribuit idem Dioscorides, unde χρυσάνθεμον quoque nonnulli appellârunt: alii καλχάνθημον, ab aereo colore, qui flavus est, dictum malunt, etc. Qua de re vide plura, apud Salmas. ad Solin. p. 1161. De eius vero in Coronis Veter. usu, Car. Paschalium Coronar. l. 3. c. 15. ut et infra in voce Helichrysum.
